Violins

Anything you need to know about violins.

I am a professional violinist but I don’t have enough money for buying a high priced violin?

If I should get a high priced instrument I will only be able to spend about $1000.Many people have instrument that is priced for about $50000.I don’t have enough money to get those violin.Is a $1000 violin enough for a professional violinist

What you probably should do is:

(1) Buy a $1,000 violin (and a good bow – which *start* at 1K) and practice like mad (see links, below, to help you with that);

(2) Join the AFM (American Federation of Musicians) in some major city where there’s lots of work, and work for several years (LA, Memphis, Houston, NYC, etc.);

(3) Trade your $1,000 violin in for one that costs more like $10,000. The AFM will lend you the money if you’ve been a member in good standing for a few years. Of course if you miss a few payments the big burly men from the Union will come and get it, but don’t miss payments.

I am a violinist i already have a student violin but i am planning to purchase a professional violin?

I don’t wanna spend above $600.Which would be best for me.

If it’s a professioal quality instrument you want, you may need to allow for higher depending on where you live. Talk to your local music store.

Where in the Central Coast area can I buy violin accessories?

Specifically a shoulder rest and rosin.

Shar Music is "mail order," reasonably priced, and has what you want:

does anyone know were you can get a cheap violin and violin leasons in jacksonville,fl and in duval?

I would recommend contacting the Jacksonville Youth Orchestra (http://www.jaxsymphony.org/jsyo/index.php) for local recommendations. Many youth orchestras keep a list of all the teachers that have students performing in the orchestra, so they may be able to help you find someone to study with. As a violin teacher myself, in the Orlando area, I’d suggest finding and interviewing a teacher and then getting his or her recommendations on purchasing an instrument locally. They will be able to give you valuable advice as to where to go and what to buy. Please don’t think too cheap, as with a violin you definitely get what you pay for. Over the years I’ve seen my beginners’ success often very strongly correlate with the quality of the first instrument. Could you imagine investing all that money for lessons, and many many hours of practice time with no hope of ever sounding very good because the instrument is not capable of sounding good? It is a fallacy that it is fine to start off with a $100 violin and then move up when progress comes. Progress will happen much faster with a better quality instrument.

Understand, though, that you shouldn’t go to your local music dealer and buy their $900 beginner violin. If you have that kind of money to spend, then get advice from a teacher as to how to spend it and you can get something even better. But you can often get the $900 Scherl & Roth or Glaesel that a local deal might have for a couple hundred dollars less online. Or even better, if you are willing to buy a used instrument in good condition, you may be able to find it through consignment or craigslist.org for $300-400 – sometimes even less.

In short, get help in purchasing an instrument. Do not give anyone any money until a professional has assessed the instrument for you.

What are the best violin brands?

There are no shops that sell violins by where I live, so I want to order one online. What are some good brands that are affordable?

Technically the best violin brand is stradavarius. an 18th century producer…

and one can be yours.. for the sum of somewhere between 1-10 million dollars :D

Seriously though as the above post mentioned, stringworks is good stuff. I know several folks who’ve gotten good instruments from them, and if you need it they can even provide parts, like bridges and pegs, etc.

What type of violin is of good quality, but at a reasonable price?

I’ve been to ebay and am not sure about how reliable each offer is. Also, I don’t exactly know what to look for because I’m buying it for a friend. I would truly appreciate it if you could help me out with what to look for! Thank you! :)

Don’t buy one from eBay. In fact, don’t commit to buying a violin without playing it first – and if you can’t play, rent. If your friend really wants to learn, they should rent a violin first – they can rent one worth more than you’d be willing to pay. A good violin will cost about $250 minimum just to be set up correctly with good strings, tight pegs, and a well-cut bridge.

If you must, I’ve had a lot of luck with instruments from this site http://www.stringworks.com – and they give you a 2 week trial period.
