on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/VIOLIN-FIDDLE-FULL-SIZE-W-CASE-BOW-ROSIN-NEW_W0QQitemZ250160313130QQihZ015QQcategoryZ10180QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem thats the address… it’s a violin for a penny. I just want something to start on or would it be too cheap and just frustrate me! I want to take lessons!

With violins, you get what you pay for – and seriously, paying less than $400 for one is going to pretty much mean you got something nearly unplayable. Yes, that violin would just frustrate you. Chances are it’s made of cheap materials, poorly set up, has crappy strings, and would cost a lot just to get into playing condition.

Try renting a violin for a few months. You can do that for $20 from most music stores in your area. See if you like it and know what you’re looking for in a violin before you start – and they’ll give you a decent instrument to play with. Good luck!

That violin looks pretty cheap… Not only that but it looks as though it doesn’t have a bridge so you won’t be able to play it until you get one and put it on the violin. The bridge holds up all the strings and makes then tense so the violin can produce notes and if a violin has been without a bridge for too long the sound post inside may collapse making it absolutely useless.

Somehow I think this violin will be useless. You’d do better going to a proper violin shop or finding one second hand in the newspaper so you can actually see the instrument and have a feel of what it is like under your chin before you actually buy it. You can get a good quality instrument for quite cheap (not for a penny though) that is good to start on.

Good luck and I hope you find a violin you like and enjoy learning. All the best! : )

I’ve been playing violin for 10 years now and have bought 3 different instruments as I grew out of the old ones.
