What is the difference in quality of a cheap violin and a more expensive one?

I know expensive violins can cost thousands of dollars, but a cheap one is only about $100. Is there a big difference in quality in these violins? I just want to start learning how to play and don’t need a very fancy one, but will the cheap one be very poor quality/ break easily?

There is definitely a difference in the quality of the sound between a really cheap and a more expensive one, but the violinist also determines how it will sound. They more important question to ask yourself when making this decision is to determine what you plan to do with the violin.
If your just starting and don’t know if you want to keep it up go for the cheaper…if you really start improving and want to get serious about go for a more expensive one.
That’s what I did.
When I went to purchase my current violin…not sure exactly of the price because it was a couple years ago…I went to a violin store – the name escapes me – in Philadelphia where the violins were assembled and restored on the premises and the man who owned it played in a series of prestigious orchestras…i tell you this because when making an investment like this you have to trust the person selling it to you. Not only did I try the violins but he had me turn around and listen to each as he played them before deciding. I also got to try several bows of varying weights. I tell you this because you should find a place like this because you will be most satisfied with your investment this way :)

An excellent resource for your violin lessons need.
