It is very important to play a violin before purchaseing one. You could pay 2000$ for one that sounds horrible, and then find one for a few hundred that sounds great. I currently am a violin suzuki teacher in central florida and after purchasing almost 20 different brands of violin on ebay, i have found one seller that has quality intsturments for cheap. The insturment with shipping comes out to about 48.00 and it comes with a case and two bows. Promptly after reciving the insturment new strings should be put on. Dominant strings make the insturment sound totally different. Rosa Musical Instrument is the name of the store on ebay and out of 20 students i have 12 that play on insturments bought from their store. Without replacing the strings, the insturment sounds very horrible, but after the strings it really opens the sound up and creates a very warm sound. If you have any other questions feel free to e-mail me! Good luck!
References :
http://cgi.ebay.com/New-4-4-Violin-w-2-Brazilwood-bows-blu-NR_W0QQitemZ170018331101QQihZ007QQcategoryZ10180QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
