What’s a good Violin to get my Mom for Mother’s Day?

on November 3, 2009

She doesn’t really play alot. She had one before but when she left my step-dad, or he kicked us out, he sold it in a yard sale. So, I’d really like to get her another one if I could for Mother’s Day. Just wondering what would be the best brand to get. I’m not quite sure how much she practiced with that one as it was a while ago, but I know she did occasionally. Anyway, just wondering what would be a good starter Violin, but still be of nice quality. Not something cheap, something nice…but still affordable for someone starting college this fall. Preferably something around $300 or lower, although I wouldn’t want to pay that much for something that’s not of good quality…so if there’s nothing that fits that price range I wouldn’t be against going up to $500-$600.

Thanks for the help!

wow that’s really sweet. your question caught my eye because i used to play the violin and would absolutely love it if someone gave me a violin as a present.

i’m sorry i’m not all that knowledgeable about the quality and pricing of different violins. all i can remember is my parents paid around $600-700 for my violin about 15 years ago and i sold it once i was out of high school at a big loss.

i would recommend going to a local music/violin shop to speak with someone with some knowledge. i did find this one link as well:

i can pretty much guarantee though that your mom is going to love it no matter how much you spend.
