Rachel Haden (bass, vocals)

Info on That Dog (from allmusic.com:)

The lineup of the Los Angeles-based indie-pop quartet that dog. represented the flowering of a second generation of musical luminaries: singer/guitarist Anna Waronker was the daughter of famed producer and Warner Bros. head Lenny Waronker, while bassist Rachel Haden and her violinist sister Petra were two of the triplet daughters born to jazz titan Charlie Haden.

Friends since high school, the trio first began playing music together in Waronker’s bedroom in the early ’90s. Joined by drummer Tony Maxwell in 1992, that dog. issued their debut double seven-inch on the tiny Magnatone Records, quickly becoming a staple of the L.A. club circuit; a flurry of label interest followed, and the group signed with DGC in 1993. that dog.’s self-titled debut LP appeared in 1994; an energetic and quirky punk-pop effort highlighted by sunny harmonies and the intriguing use of violin and cello, the record became a college radio hit, and the light-hearted video for the lead single “Old Timer” even garnered some MTV airplay.

The follow-up, Totally Crushed Out!, was issued a year later; a concept album wittily exploring the teen angst of unrequited love (packaged to recall a Sweet Valley High romance novel), the record marked a significant maturity in Waronker’s songwriting, evidenced by tracks like “Ms. Wrong” and “He’s Kissing Christian.”

A planned Waronker solo project was scheduled to follow, but instead her more pop-oriented material became the basis for the third that dog. record; co-produced by Brad Wood, the stellar Retreat From the Sun appeared in 1997. The band’s breakup was announced that September.

That’s Incredible! – Friends Of P (early Rentals demo)

For the complete ‘You Are Here: a That Dog playlist’, click here: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=2EB36B94D177761E

That’s Incredible! – Friends Of P. (Demo).

Note: Very first demo of the Rentals hit “Friend of P.” prior to the moog and violins aspect of that recording were added.

That’s Incredible! was the very first incarnation of Weezer bassist Matt Sharp’s side project called The Rentals. Recorded by Tom Grimley at his studio Poop Alley in L.A. in April 1994 (a month prior to the first Weezer record debuting), the ‘That’s Incredible!’ demos form the basis of what would become the first Rentals album ‘Return Of The Rentals’ in 1995.

The line-up of ‘That’s Incredible!’ consisted of Sharp (vocals, bass and lead guitar), Weezer bandmate Patrick Wilson (drums), That Dog’s Rachel Haden (female vocals) and Supersport 2000′s Rod Cervera (rhythm guitar). Out of this line-up, only Sharp and Cervera would become part of The Rentals, as other commitments prevented Haden and Wilson from becoming full-time participants in what would become a more time-consuming project for Sharp once signed to Maverick Records in early 1995.

That Dog – Never Say Never (Official Music Video) (HQ)

For the complete ‘You Are Here: a That Dog playlist’, click here: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=2EB36B94D177761E

Official music video for “Never Say Never” by Los Angeles based band That Dog.

Directed by Mark Kohr. Released April 1997.

The video depicts singer Anna Waronker in a session with her therapist (played by drummer Tony Maxwell), while bassist Rachel Haden anxiously awaits outside for her appointment along with the doctor’s daydreaming receptionist (played by violinist Petra Haden). The concept of the clip was inspired by the group having recently undergone “band therapy” to work out some internal conflicts prior to the recording of “Never Say Never”‘s parent album “Retreat From The Sun.”

“Never Say Never” was to become That Dog’s only officially charting single, peaking at #27 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Charts, with the album “Retreat From The Sun” reaching #31 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Chart in 1997.

Unfortunately, apparently therapy was not successful and later that year, That Dog called it quits.
