What is the average price of a violin?

If a string breaks is it fixable, and how much does it cost?

The average price of a violin can range anywhere from about $200 for a very low-quality one, and millions of dollars for a Stradivarius or another violin of comparable quality. Mine is worth about $2,000. However, I’m assuming that you (or whoever the violin is for) might be just starting, and so I’d advise either buying a cheaper one or renting one until you’re sure that you want to continue learning.

Also, if a string breaks, you just buy a new one. They’re pretty easy to put back on, so take it to an instrument shop or ask a string musician to show you how to do it. Strings also range in cost. You can get a set (all 4) for around $10, or you can buy really expensive ones. Mine are around $60 for a set. Again, it all depends on the quality. You can buy them online at websites such as http://www.shar.com, or at a local shop that sells them.

Kristin is spot on. Violins range in price, depending on who you are buying for. If it is for a child, make sure to get the right size (the music store can do this) and get the best one you can afford. Strings are replacable and are fairly inexpensive.
