Which suzuki violin method book should I purchase as an intermediate?

on July 22, 2009

I played violin a great deal in middle and high school. I also played a little bit in college. I would consider myself intermediate as far as experience goes. Which level of Suzuki should I purchase to begin playing the violin again?

I’m sorry, suzuki books are NOT only "7.00$" there like 12$
I play with the suzuki method, and I also play with 2 other different books at the same time. I’m studying 3 different styles of music in the grade 3 area. Celtic, Fiddling, and Classical. PLUS I do my own rock and pop music at home. I’ve been playing for 3 years.

If your in Intermdeiate, I’d say the end of book 2, to as far as book 5. Enjoy. Classical is a bore, but you can always start Celtic, or Rock. :)

A lot depends on what you were playing when you quit. If you were playing Suzuki books, and since you haven’t played for a while–the Suzuki books are only about $7.00 (or so) — I’d start with book 2 and work up.

You also might want to get the first Barbara Barber book, which is level Suzuki books 1-3:

If you were playing etudes when you quit, I’d start with Wohlfahrt and Kayser. See:

well, i use the Suzuki method for the violin, and i ve been playing for 5 years and im in Vol. 4, on Concerto For Two Violins (by Bach).. and it is very challenging, with a lot of tricky shifts. so, if i were you i would buy vol. 3

I am an intermediate violinist and I am on book 4… but if you want to review, you should consider looking at book 3 for something a bit easier to get into the knack of it again. Hope I helped!
